L'ébauche est ensuite collée à la colle cyanocrylate sur une chute tournée aux dimensions des mors du mandrin de tournage en l'air. The blank is then glued with CA glue on a piece of wood turned to fit the jaws of the chuck.
L'ensemble est monté dans le mandrin et dégrossi au bédane; tenu biseau vers le bas, celui-ci fonctionne comme un racloir droit. The assembly is then mounted in the chuck and roughed out using the bedane; hold with the bevel down, this tool acts as a straight scraper.

The next step consists is creating the recess in which the veneer stripe will be glued; this operation is made using a narrow tool like a parting tool.
La bague est ensuite creusée au bédane, biseau en bas. Dans ce cas précis il faut travailler plus haut que l'axe pour éviter que le bas du bédane ne touche la pièce. The ring is then hollowed with the bedane in downward position. In this specific case the position is relatively higher than the median axis to avoid that the botttom of the bedane hits the work.
La diamètre est régulièrement contrôlé au pied à coulisse jusqu'aù diamètre exact (ici, 20,8 mm). The diameter is periodically checked with a calliper until the exact diameter is reached (here 20,8 mm)

Pour donner sa forme au placage j'utilise un "fer à cintrer" maison, en fait un tube de cuivre chauffé au décapeur thermique et sur lequel je forme le placage humidifié. To give the veeneer its shape I use a home made "bending iron", actually a copper tube heated with an air gun on which I shape the dampen veneer stripe.
Le placage est collé dans son logement avec de la colle cynaocrylate. La colle prend en quelque secondes sur la peau, alors j'utilise des gants et je me sers d'un morceau d'adhésif pour maintenir le placage en place pendant que la colle prend. The veneer is glued in the recess using CA glue. The glue sets on skin in a few seconds, so I wear gloves and I use a small stripe of adhesive to maintain the veneer while the glue sets.
